Syncretism, in its literal sense, means the combining of seemingly contradictory beliefs. 3TTMan’s sculptural work examines this concept through its antithesis. Exploring the colonial impulse to overwhelm rather than combine 3TTMan is critiquing, as he says, the ‘necessity of Man to always try and go higher than those who came before him’. He uses a ‘childish and innocent medium’, that of the sand castle, to disparage the ‘urge to impose our beliefs on one another’, the urge to vanquish rather than to syncretise.
